Challenge

How might we enhance sustainability and function in commonly used home products?

Product Description

Dew is a redesign of a traditional water filter pitcher, emphasizing re-usability, user comfort, and aesthetics. It shifts from plastic to glass, enhancing Eco-friendliness and appearance. The filter system now uses compact, tablet-like inserts for the sediment, mesh, and carbon filters, simplifying replacement and reducing plastic waste.

Product Features

Reusable Pitcher body

Dew’s reusable filter holder is designed for sustained use, aiming to reduce waste. It's a key component of a water filtration system that allows for the replacement of filter elements without discarding the entire unit.

Dew's carbon and sediment filters are designed to be disposable. They are intended for single use and reimagines the conventional method of replacing parts in water filtration systems.

Dew's disposable components are available in a compact, tablet-like form. These condensed replacement filters provide consumers with an easy-to-purchase and install option, representing a convenient and more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional filter replacements.

Consumer research

“Filling my water filter gives me a wrist ache. When I pick it up from the handle it is impossible to carry so much weight and when I try to hold the body of the pitcher, my hands slip.”

“I hate throwing a used filter in the trash. I wish there was a more sustainable way of filtering water or maybe a way of separating the parts of the filter so I could recycling it.”

“I find the idea of a filter that collects dirt and contaminants from my tap water sitting in my filtered clean water pretty gross.”

Market Research

The water filter comprises three primary components: a mesh filter, a carbon filter, and a sediment filter, all contained within a plastic body. This plastic body must be disposed of each time the user changes their filter.
